What it is
Gentle traction that gives a compressed disc the space to heal.
Between each of your vertebrae sits a disc — a small cushion that can bulge, herniate, or thin out and press on a nearby nerve. Decompression uses a computer-controlled traction system — at Two Palms, a Chattanooga Triton DTS® — that applies slow, programmable pull patterns designed to mimic the feel of hands-on traction, gently lengthening the spine to ease that pressure and open negative space inside the disc. That space draws water, oxygen, and nutrients back in, so the disc can slowly rehydrate and the nerve can calm down. The pulls ease on and off with rest built in, so it stays comfortable. Because a disc heals slowly, this works over a course of sessions — each one building on the last, not in a single visit. You stay fully clothed and simply rest on the table; most people find it relaxing.
Good questions
Before you book.
Does spinal decompression hurt?
No. You’re lying down the whole time, and most people find it gentle — even relaxing. If anything ever feels off, we ease back right away.
How many sessions will I need? Is it a package?
Decompression works as a course, not a single visit. A typical plan runs a few sessions a week over several weeks — we offer a 10-session package, and Dr. Moore recommends the right plan for you after your exam. Finishing the full course matters; stopping early is the most common reason symptoms return.
How soon will I feel better — and does it always work?
Relief is gradual and honestly varies. Some people notice a change within the first week, many need the full course, and some don’t respond much at all — it isn’t a guaranteed cure. Dr. Moore will tell you straight whether it’s helping you.
Is it safe, and is it really non-surgical?
Yes — it’s a drug-free, non-surgical therapy on a specialized table. Dr. Moore screens first to be sure you’re a good candidate before starting.
Will my insurance cover it?
Coverage varies by plan, and many patients use our session package. We’re glad to walk you through the cost before you commit to anything.
Do I need a referral?
No referral needed — you can book directly. If you’re recovering from a car accident or work injury, we can coordinate with your case too.
